BEER, Vino, and Spirits

Okay, so Germany is really into beer apparently, and I’m not. I’m actually more into wine, (Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, to be exact), BUT this place was incredible! It was the first brewery we went to in Cologne and I loved it. Kind of had a Blue Moon type  flavor, but 20 times better.

It hasn’t been easy to find “New Zealand” Sauvignon Blanc out here; in fact, it is nowhere. The time had come that I suck it up and just drink whatever white wine they have, and not ask any questions. This was a Riesling made locally in Germany. It was pretty tasty, I must admit.

One thing I learned quickly about the beer in Germany is that  every brewery has its own kind of beer, of which they call “kolsch.” You don’t have several varieties and flavors of beer like we do in America. You go to a brewery, and you drink their beer. If you don’t drink the kolsch, then you don’t drink; therefore, I drank kolsch. This particular brewery  in Cologne was called Fruh. It was awesome.

  1. Next time you’re stateside, let’s see if Flat 12 brewery has its kolsch on tap so you can compare. This spring they did a cucumber kolsch – very refreshing!

    • That cucumber kolsch sounds delish!! Yes, we will definitely have to check out the brewery! And BTW, it was very nice to see you while I was home! Hope you are recovering quickly!
